NZDE Qualification & National Curriculum

Review Project

About the project

We’re excited to announce that we’ve begun work to review the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (NZDE), an important Level 6 national qualification for engineering technicians.

We’re going to be working closely with industry and providers to review the NZDE qualification, followed by a review of the National Curriculum Document (programme) – to make sure that there is a fit for purpose qualification and programme, aligned to the future needs of the industry.

Why VEE.NZ is carrying out this review

VEE.NZ is the industry standard setting body for the Level 6 NZDE, and New Zealand Diploma in Engineering Practice. This is different from most Level 1-6 qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF), where the Workforce Development Councils (WDCs) are the standard setting body.

Why this qualification matters

The NZDE provides a Level 6 option for those looking for, or currently in training towards an engineering qualification. Those who complete their NZDE studies can either move into an engineering technician role in industry, or they can continue their studies, with either the workplace-based New Zealand Diploma in Engineering Practice (NZDEP), or the Bachelor of Engineering Techology (BEngTech).

The NZDE is also aligned with the Dublin Accord, which means that the NZDE is an internationally recognised engineering technician qualification.

How you can help

We are looking for expressions of interest from passionate and experienced individuals to join either an overarching industry focus group, and/or strand-specific groups (e.g. civil, electrical, electronic, mechanical and fire), to help shape the review of the qualification and programme document.

This is an opportunity to contribute your industry knowledge and expertise to ensure the qualification, and associated programme(s), best reflect what our industries in New Zealand require from engineering technicians into the future.

We invite applications from experienced industry folk, and particularly those currently practicing in industry and/or have come through the NZDE and/or BEngTech route yourself.

Apply now

Applications for the industry, and strand focus groups close CoB Friday 15th August.
